

The Midatech Group, world leader in the production and application of synthetic nanoparticles, will develop new pharmaceutical formulations at its plant in Bizkaia after signing a collaboration agreement with MonoSol Rx, the medication delivery company specialising in dissolving thin film pharmaceutical products and creator of the PharmFilm® technology. The purpose of the alliance between these two companies is to develop drugs that combine biocompatible nanoparticles with the new PharmFilm® delivery technologies.
Under terms of the agreement, Midatech Ltd and MonoSol Rx will jointly research, develop and commercialize new drug candidates designed to deliver therapeutic nanoparticles in thin film. Research and development will be carried out at the Midatech Biogune S.L. plant which the British group has in the Bizkaia Technology Park.
Midatech Group Ltd. UK is a world leader in the design, synthesis and manufacture of biocompatible nanoparticles, which can be used to create a wide variety of products with novel characteristics, functions and applications in industrial sectors such as life sciences, electronics or chemistry. Founded in 2000, the headquarters of Midatech Ltd. are located in Abingdon (Oxford, United Kingdom). Since 2005 the company has had a manufacturing plant – Midatech Biogune S.L. – located in Bizkaia and is currently establishing a new plant to be situated in Basel (Switzerland).
On its part, MonoSol Rx is a specialised pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Portage (Indiana, U.S.A.) which has developed its own fast dissolving film for drug delivery. This technology, called PharmFilm®, has been designed to benefit the patient by improving the convenience, efficacy, and compliance of currently marketed drugs.
